![]() TAONGA: Dust, Water, WindA fantail echoes death, bodies inhabit a stone world with hidden messages and Rona is captured by the moon. With bush-clad hills to its back and the Southern Pacific Ocean spread out in front, Kaka Point is a place inhabited by natural magic. Taonga: Dust, Water, Wind takes its inspiration from this southern land, its people, its legends, and its ethereal nature. Accompanied by resonating taonga puoro (traditional Maori instruments) and set in 1934, the childhood memories of choreographer Potiki-Bryant’s Aunty Rona are brought to life and paired with moonlit legend. Potiki-Bryant’s works draw on mana wahine (strength of women), whakapapa (genealogy/tribal links) and history, and have a strong interdisciplinary focus. With internationally renowned dancers and spectacular subtlety, Taonga combines contemporary dance, live music and stunning AV design to create a delicate yet powerful dance work.
