While on Oahu, Atamira presented Ngai Tahu 32 choreographed by Louise Potiki Bryant and a number of shorter works including Te Whenua and an excerpt from Moss Patterson's Whakairo. They also presented a lecture-demonstration about the kaupapa and whakapapa of Ngai Tahu 32, the research that went into creating the work, and the interdisciplinary focus, which combines video design, lighting and set design, choreography, and movement vocabulary. And they worked with students in a choreography workshop and a repertory class and visit two local elementary schools. Atamira's visit to Hawai'i was coordinated by the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa Outreach College. O'ahu performances and workshops were cosponsored by the UHM Theatre and Dance Department and the UHM Center for Pacific Islands Studies. |
